Are you looking to jump on the Dolby Atmos hype train but don’t want to pay a premium for the privilege? The Majority Elias 2.1.2 soundbar promises a Dolby Atmos experience that won’t break the bank.

Design and build quality

The Majority Elias boasts a sleek and stylish design with a full metal grill and compact dimensions (9.1cm x 61cm x 6.78cm). Weighing just 1.73kg, it’s also easy to handle and mount on the wall using the provided brackets, a great space-saving solution.

Unboxing and setup

The package includes the soundbar, a remote control, wall mounting brackets, a 20V, 2.5A power adaptor, and an HDMI cable. The soundbar's top has four buttons for power, volume, and input selection, so you can still control it even if you can’t find the remote.

Setting up the soundbar was a breeze thanks to its diverse connectivity options. You can connect it to virtually any device with Bluetooth 5.3, HDMI eARC, Optical, and AUX inputs.

Including HDMI eARC integration allows for a cleaner setup and enhanced audio control via a single remote. eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel) offers higher bandwidth, enabling better audio quality and support for more immersive audio formats, including uncompressed surround sound and Dolby Atmos.

Sound performance

The Elias has 2.1.2 speaker channels and up-firing speakers to produce a virtual 3D, object-based audio experience. When I fired up my favourite action movie, the sound felt like it was coming from all directions, creating a decently immersive atmosphere.

The soundbar's 160W power output ensures that the audio is loud but also clear and detailed. While detail isn’t lacking, and dialogue is clear, the sound lacks bass, and the soundstage feels a little compressed, especially for non-Dolby Atmos content. This isn’t too surprising considering the compact form factor. The option to add a separate subwoofer would have been a welcome addition.

Gaming

Gamers will also appreciate the Elias. Dolby Atmos' detailed directional effects enhance the gaming experience, making explosions, footsteps, and ambient sound come to life. I used it with my Xbox Series X, and while not all games support Dolby Atmos, those that do take full advantage of the complex positional sound system.

Remote

The included remote control is intuitive and user-friendly, allowing easy adjustments to volume, sound modes, and other settings. The ideal way to use the soundbar is via HDMI, where you can use your TV remote to control and simplify things.

Verdict

The Majority Elias 2.1.2 is a relatively inexpensive soundbar that supports Dolby Atmos. You can't expect to get the full experience from a single soundbar when a full-blown Dolby Atmos setup would include seven surround speakers (5.1 + 2 height channels), one subwoofer, and four height speakers (two pairs of ceiling speakers or Atmos-enabled reflecting speakers). Its sleek design, versatile connectivity, and decent sound performance make it a decent choice for gamers and film enthusiasts alike, particularly for smaller rooms.
