JLab Studio Pro ANC wireless over-ear headphones: Immersive sound, comfort, and affordability

Finding moments of uninterrupted focus and relaxation can be a challenge. Whether you're working, gaming, or simply enjoying your favourite music or podcasts, ambient noise can disrupt your enjoyment and hinder your ability to immerse yourself fully in your audio content. That's where active noise-cancelling headphones come in, providing a sanctuary of sound isolation and clarity in any environment.
While ANC headphones have clear advantages, they’re often prohibitively expensive. I’ve been testing the new Studio Pro ANC wireless over-ear headphones, which offer many great features at an affordable price.
The Studio Pro ANC features what Jlab calls form-fit earcups and plush cloud foam cushions. I found them to be a snug fit for my ears. The cushioning is soft and comfortable, although I would have liked more padding on the headband.
At only 141g, the Studio Pro ANC are light, making them comfortable for long listening sessions, walks, and even light exercise.
A carry case is also provided to protect the headphones when not in use. Both earcups can fold, making the headphones compact for storage and ideal for packing into a rucksack.
The Studio Pro ANC features active noise-cancelling technology, providing listeners with a sanctuary of distraction-free listening. Four different noise control modes, including adaptive ANC, allow you to be fully immersed in your audio.
Equipped with smart hybrid ANC technology, they can adapt to environmental changes. With four microphones, the Studio Pro ANC effectively neutralises unwanted noise, allowing you to stay focused and immersed wherever you go. While the ANC performance isn’t class-leading, they’re decent, considering the price of the headphones.
The Studio Pro ANC come with a USB-C to 3.5mm cable, which is great if you have a device with a headphone jack. I used a digital audio player for testing, and there was a slight improvement in sound quality. The advantage of using the cable is that it won’t drain the battery, but you will lose the ability to control the headphones' volume and playback via the buttons. You can still use ANC in wired mode, but turning it on requires battery power.
The Studio ProANC is no slouch regarding battery life, boasting an impressive 45+ hours of Bluetooth playtime on a single charge with ANC off and up to 28 with it on. The headphones offer dual connectivity options, allowing for wireless connection via Bluetooth or wired connection using the included USB-C to 3.5mm cable.
The headphones can be fully charged in three hours. However, 10 minutes of playtime should provide up to one hour.
The Studio Pro ANC offers three custom EQ3 sound modes: JLab Signature, Balanced, and Bass Boost. You can toggle through these EQ modes by pressing on and holding the volume and down buttons for three seconds. However, it’s a pity there’s no companion app for more advanced EQ or the ability to customise the button gestures.
The sound quality is excellent for a set of cans in this price range. Adding the three EQ modes helps improve things like bass, which I felt was missing from the default mode. ANC performance is good but not as good as the noise suppression you get from top-of-the-range headphones from Sony or Bose.
The buttons on the earcup provide quick and intuitive access to volume control, track navigation, and ANC settings. The physical buttons work great and don’t create the frustrations and faffing often found with touch controls.
The headphones also feature a microphone for crystal-clear phone calls and compatibility with virtual assistants like Siri and Google Assistant.
