Twitter announced during the summer that it would no longer count certain things, like media or Twitter handles, as part of a tweet’s character limit, but didn’t say when this would be implemented. Reports indicate that this could be rolled out globally on September 19.

Two sources familiar with the project are cited by The Verge as saying that September 19 marks the start of a global release. However, it covers itself by saying that these plans could change.
