Twitter may let you say more in 140 characters this week

Twitter may loosen up its character limit this week, allowing you to add images, video, and more without eating into precious characters.

Twitter announced during the summer that it would no longer count certain things, like media or Twitter handles, as part of a tweet’s character limit, but didn’t say when this would be implemented. Reports indicate that this could be rolled out globally on September 19.

Two sources familiar with the project are cited by The Verge as saying that September 19 marks the start of a global release. However, it covers itself by saying that these plans could change.

If this change is rolled out, users will be able to add videos, images, gifs, polls, and Twitter handles to their tweets without eating into the amount of characters they have to actually say something about such.

Back in May, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey said, “We’re not giving up on the idea of Twitter being in the moment.”

“We’re always going to look for opportunities to make tweets a lot more expressive, and enable people to say what they want to say,” he added.
