Microsoft pushed its way into the smartphone market in recent years with the Lumia brand but it seems like that might be a thing of the past.

Microsoft sallied bravely forth into the competitive world of smartphones a few years back, with a little help from those former superstars at Nokia. And while the handsets themselves were often nicely made and offered an interesting approach to areas like the camera, things never really seemed to go their way.

It probably won't some as much of a surprise then to hear that the Lumia brand's days are numbered. A report from an insider claims that Microsoft will kill off Lumia by the end of 2016, with the current suite of devices being sold until all stock has run out.
