VIDEO Akira Kurosawa's Ran is restored and looks amazing
Legendary Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa had already crafted masterpieces like Ikiru and Seven Samurai by the mid-50s but continued to work for many decades afterwards. In 1985 he mounted his last ever epic, with the biggest budget ever for a Japanese film at that time. It was a gargantuan adaptation of William Shakespeare's King Lear with the title of Ran.
More than 30 years after the film arrived in cinemas, it has been the subject of major restoration work and scanned at new 4K resolution in time for a cinema re-release. Here's the trailer.
