HTC Vive will show off a 'very big' breakthrough at CES

The HTC Vive's release was pushed back until April 2016, but apparently there's a very good reason for it. CEO Cher Wang teased that Valve and her team made "a very, very big technological breakthrough" with their virtual reality system.

This breakthrough was so significant that HTC will skip the original version and release a headset that features this breakthrough instead. "We shouldn't make our users swap their systems later just so we could meet the December shipping date," Wang said.

The recent breakthrough isn't the only mystery surrounding this device. We also don't know how much it will cost, but it may be safe to assume that it won't be as affordable as some VR headsets on the market.

HTC will likely reveal more at CES. What is certain is that we'll hear what's so important that not only has the Vive been delayed, but overhauled altogether.
