VIDEO Behind the Scenes on War for the Planet of the Apes

The Planet of the Apes reboot seemed like a terrible idea but ended up being an very impressive sci-fi film. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes followed and managed to be almost as good, and now we're waiting on the war.

War for the Planet of the Apes will see the humans and ape-kind becoming less friendly and the world set up by the original film coming closer to reality. It's currently shooting and this first look video has some footage and an amazing contest.

That's a huge opportunity for any kind of apes fan, in fact anyone who is interested in the kind of artistry which goes into making a blockbuster film with some of the best special effects around. Over on the site you can easily send in your footage - all you have to do is enter your personal details and paste in a link to your YouTube video with the best Apes impression you can do.

There are a few guidelines which you can also read about, including a hashtag to use on YouTube and a request to not use branded gear in the vid. They must also be in English and be under 30 seconds. And you must have a passport as you'll have to travel to Canada to take part. And the biggest one is probably the fact that only residents of the US and Canada can enter. Which sucks a bit.

War for the Planet of the Apes is directed by Matt Reeves and stars Woody Harrelson and Steve Zahn. See it in cinemas in July 2017.
