OnePlus announces two variants of OnePlus X

OnePlus today announced the new OnePlus X, a handset that emphasises design over specs. The handset will be available in two variants, one with a sheet of glass on the back and one with a ceramic backing.

The glass backed version will retail for $249 or £199 and will be available from November 5th. The ceramic version will cost £269 and will be released on November 24th. The ceramic handset is the more exclusive of the two; just 10,000 handsets are being manufactured, and it won’t even be released in the U.S.

Both models are 140 x 69 x 6.9 mm, but they differ in weight. The onyx glass version weighs 138g, while the ceramic one is a little more hefty at 160g.

The OnePlus X runs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset with its four cores clocked up to 2.6GHz, while there’s also 3GB RAM. It has a 2525mAh battery, compared to the 3300mAh of the OnePlus 2. There’s also 16GB internal storage, though the OnePlus X features a microSD slot so you can expand this by up to 128GB.

On the camera front, the OnePlus X has a 13 megapixel main camera with an f/2.2 aperture. The front camera has an 8 megapixel sensor.

OnePlus is sticking with the invite system, so you’ll have to depend on someone who has bought one, the kindness of people on social media, or hope that your name comes up from the reservation list. And, in the case of the ceramic version, you’ll also have to be quite quick.
