Motorola has built a shatterproof screen

Motorola claims that the DROID Turbo 2’s display is shatterproof. It is calling its display the ShatterShield.

The smartphone manufacturer is putting its money where its mouth is by giving the Turbo 2 a 4-year guarantee against shatters or cracks. Motorola will even let you replace the top protective layer of the ShatterShield system if it starts to develop cosmetic issues.

Motorola explains that the system is built on five layers. It outlines the design of the system in a making of video.

The system seems to work. CNN put it to the test in a video in which the Turbo 2 is dropped from varying heights on a number of different surfaces. It also gets run over by a bicycle and is trod on by a horse. The screen does suffer a few dents, but it doesn’t shatter.
