Bill Murray on why he's back for Ghostbusters

Bill Murray has been down on the idea of more Ghostbusters movies for years, he just wasn't interested in coming back into the fold. But then he changed his mind.

Recently it was confirmed that the comic was set to return for a cameo in the newly rebooted Ghostbusters feature starring Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig. So what changed his mind? Some very nice people:

"I like those girls a lot, I mean, I really do. They are tough to say no to. And Paul is a real nice fellow. You know, they were incredibly nice to ask me, and I really enjoyed being there. They have such a jolly group, and they are going to have great success with this project. I didn’t want to overshadow [them] or anything, and I feel really good about it."

This was in a chat with Vulture where the 64 year old was pretty open about why he passed previously. And in some ways he hasn't changed his mind - he won't be playing the character of Pete Venkman in his cameo role for the new Ghostbusters and won't be getting involved in the spectral fighting at all. He's just giving his blessing to the project, as part of the old guard passing it on to the new.

Murray actually owns part of the rights to the Ghostbusters property so he really did have to give them his blessing before they could move forward with the picture, so its pretty clear he has a lot of faith in the new female cast and director Paul Feig. And if Bill Murray is on board maybe its about time everyone got on the bandwagon for the new film.

Ghostbusters comes to cinemas in July 2016.
