VIDEO Bond and the ladies of Spectre
James Bond 24, better known as Spectre, is heading for cinemas in October 2015. And it's kind of a big deal as it follows on from the triumph of Skyfall back in 2012 which was not only the biggest Bond film of all time but also one of the highest grossing films of the year.
With just a few short months until its UK premiere, we're already getting a flurry of marketing materials, including trailers and behind the scenes videos. The latest look at the production focusses on a couple of new characters to the fray - played by Monica Bellucci and Léa Seydoux.
There's long been a stigma attached to being a Bond girl but these two stars already have established careers and this extra bit of attention isn't going to do them any harm. It's interesting to hear director Sam Mendes confirm that Bond will be 'hooking up' with both of them through the course of the movie. If we were to make a guess we'd say that Bellucci probably has the smaller role here as she hasn't appeared in much footage yet and certainly not in an action scene like Seydoux does. And if you know you're Bond history that gives you a pretty good idea of how long one of these characters is going to last.
The Daniel Craig Bond movies have treated some of their female roles better than others - Eva Green was a standout and Judi Dench's M got a great send-off but otherwise the parts have been quite bland, forgettable and even a tad mysoginistic. Let's hope for something a little more progressive in Spectre.
