VIDEO: Kermit and Miss Piggy have broken up
"After careful thought, thoughtful consideration and considerable squabbling, Miss Piggy made the difficult decision to terminate our romantic relationship.
We will continue to work together on television (âThe Muppetsâ/Tuesdays 8pm this fall on ABC) and in all media now known or hereafter devised, in perpetuity, throughout the universe.
However, our personal lives are now distinct and separate, and we will be seeing other people, pigs, frogs, et al. This is our only comment on this private matter. Thank you for your understanding."
Itâs the end of a decades long relationship, and one which has its very public ups and downs during that time. For this part, Kermit has already moved on to a new flame, a pig called Denise who works in the marketing department at ABC.
And Miss Piggy is looking forward to get new found single-hood, especially as she embarks on a new phase in her life as the host of talk show Up Late With Miss Piggy.
Of course, this is all for a specific reason - thereâs a new Muppets TV show (called the muppets.) which is set to start airing in September on ABC.
Itâs going to be a mockumentary style showing the behind the scenes workings of Up Late With Miss Piggy, something like the style of The Office and it comes hot off successful test footage which was doing the rounds online recently.
As a series of movies and TV shows which was always self aware this seems like a logical direction to take the characters, especially as the movies have started to gain popularity again.
And the Piggy vs Kermit angle is obviously already being teased, setting up a plot dynamic for the show and helping to get audiences excited for whats to come.
Will it be any good? Thatâs always hard to say but with the nostalgia which people feel for these characters itâs likely weâll get at least a season or two to find out.
