VIDEO: Mad Max game trailer - not quite Fury Road
Bizarrely the simply-titled Mad Max doesn't have any real connection to George Miller's operatic opus, at least in terms of its story. But the visuals certainly owe a little to his twisted world as you can see in this latest trailer.
The look of the world, the use of the War Boys (who never appeared in the mythology before Fury Road) and even the way those flares light up the sky are all very closely tied to the movie. But this is a different Max with a very different story which lets us see elements of his past as he tries to find a future. It also seems pretty clear that he's going to talk a lot more than the almost mute Tom Hardy in the feature.
In terms of gameplay, the mix of driving and fixing up your car with on foot action looks decent enough, even if the melee fights still seem a bit stiff. It's likely that the car will be the real star here, as you search for upgrades to make it even meaner on the road. The game comes from Avalanche Studios, best known for the Just Cause series, so they know their way around an open world with lots of destruction.
