Elsa re-enters top 500 most popular baby names thanks to Frozen
Data released by the Social Security Administration showed that Elsa was the 286th most popular name in the United States in 2014. 1,131 girls were named Elsa in 2014, up from 528 the year before.
Frozen’s other characters also benefitted from the movie’s release. Thirty-two kids were called Kristoff in 2014, up from just seven in 2013, while even Hans had an impact with the name given to 132 boys last year, up from 98.
It wasn’t just the human names that became more popular. There were 22 boys called Olaf, up from 9 in 2013, and 55 Svens, up from 33.
Anna remained a popular name for girls, gaining just one place in the list to become the 34th most popular name for girls in the United States.
This isn’t the first time that Disney releases have had an impact on the ranking. Since Brave’s release in 2012, there have been more than 100 girls called Merida.
