Sony at E3 2015 - Shenmue The Last Guardian and Uncharted 4!
Sony had a few obvious titles to bring along to E3 this year, including the last chapter in the Uncharted series, but it also had plenty of gaps to fill. And boy did it fill them – The Last Guardian, Final Fantasy VII and a step towards an actual release for SHENMUE III!
Read on for the full breakdown of one of the best conferences at E3 2015.
It all kicked off with this frankly unbelievable resurrection for a game which has been teased since 2009. Technically this counts as the first proper announcement of the title, and it still looks really, really weird.
It’s about a little boy who teams up with a… cat-dragon thing with weird feet to get around a dark and dangerous world. It’s from the makers of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus (at least some of them) and will now be a PS4 exclusive coming in 2016. Probably…
Guerrilla games the makers of Killzone have a new title and this time it’s a bit different. As in its about a post apocalyptic world where you have to face off against robotic dinosaurs to survive.
It’s unsuprisingly gorgeous, with a nice level of stylisation that we’re perfectly ok with when recreating an unreal world. The whole thing has a bit of an Enslaved feel to it (did anyone else actually play that game) and if the final version looks anything like this it could be a massive hit. PS$ only.
For some reason they keep making Hitman games, though its never entirely clear that players are massively in love with the results. Still you have to admire them for trying, and the next title sounds a bit more experimental.
It’s getting a digital only release early on, with the content being added to over a period of months or years. We don’t know whether that means the initial launch is little more than a beta but it has been promised that there will be a single cost for the whole experience. CG trailer time.
The fighting never stops, especially as you’ll only be able to experience Street Fighter V on PS4 on consoles. Expect combos and cartoonish graphics, and hopefully a better port than the recent attempt at Street Fighter IV.
Games don’t come any bigger than this. And we mean that literally. Hello Games have conjured up an entire and unique universe for you to play with in No Man’s Sky, with no boundaries on where you can explore.
Fly from a planet into space and journey to another world, all in a single game without loading. Witness incredible events and totally unique creatures and explore your very own universe. The latest video shows off destructible terrain and some fighting, as well as the incredible visuals. There’s no release date yet but we don’t mind waiting for this kind of ambition.
From the creators of Little Big Planet comes a game where you’ll be able to shape and sculpt reality to your every whim, crafting dreamscapes which you can share with other players through the web.
That’s the pitch anyway for Media Molecule’s latest which is all about the whole Play Create Share philosophy. Apparently you’ll be able to make movies as well as games, all using the software on PS4. Though crafting this stuff with a controller might be quite time consuming.
Alone in the wilderness, you’ll have to use your skills to survive in the gorgeously crafted Firewatch. Those cell-shaded style graphics are looking lovely and there’s a great sense of mystery around the story which unfolds from a first person perspective.
The game will be arriving on PC first but will have a console exclusive on PS4. So just who is in your tower…?
If you like Destiny, there’s more Destiny on the way in The Taken King expansion. That includes a new raid, more loot and extra weapons. It’s coming September 15th 2015.
If you don’t like Destiny you should move along.
We’ve already covered this in the Ubisoft round up – so there’s definitely a new Assassin’s Creed this year and it will be set in Victorian London. You’ll play as one of a set of twins, there are male and female options which should make some fans happy.
The action looks pretty brutal this time around, thanks to new weaponry and a close up combat system and this version of London just seems really violent.
Yes you read that right – Final Fantasy VII is back. The venerable and classic JRPG from 1997 pretty much defined the era of the original PlayStation console so it’s fitting that it’s getting a HD remake.
That’s not just a higher quality spit and polish – it sounds like the game is being rebuilt from the ground up to make the most of modern technology. Is that what fans want? We’ll find out when it arrives exclusively on PS4, though we don’t know when that’ll be.
This one is kind of a big deal. Back in 1999, Sega and Yu Suzuki released a game called Shenmue exlusively on Dreamcast. It was big and it was detailed and it still remains one of the best open world adventure titles we’ve ever played.
A little seen sequel was released in 2001 but the series died due to great costs and a lack of sales. 14 years later, it’s suddenly back and Sony PlayStation is talking about it at E3. That doesn’t mean the game is almost ready, instead they’re looking for funding on Kickstarter – going back to fans to get them involved in development.
The goal of $2 million was surpassed in less than 12 hours – this one is going to go big!
There’s another Call of Duty this year, again to the surprise of no one. It’s looking especially meaty and also very, very attractive.
Black Ops III will have exclusive content on PS4, in a deal which used to belong to Microsoft and Xbox. That might grab a few more players come November 2015.
The biggest Star Wars game ever is coming this year, handily in time for the hype machine which will be building around The Force Awakens.
Coming from the developers of Battlefield, Star Wars Battlefront will let you play in some of the most iconic adventures of the fight between the Rebels and the Empire with never before seen graphics and some amazing set pieces. Plus you can fly Tie Fighters.
Arguably the big one for Sony, though nothing can really top Shenmue in our minds.
Developers Naughty Dog are saying that this is the last hurrah for the character of Nathan Drake – who has been having pretty tough times since his debut in 2007’s Uncharted. This time around, Drake finds out that his long-lost brother is actually alive and the siblings go out after some pirate treasure.
It’s going to be another bumpy ride and it seems some familiar faces will also be along for the adventure, including the surly Sully as can be seen in this gameplay trailer. The world looks really open this time, especially that huge driving section. Coming in early 2016, only on PS4.
