Third-party Apple Watch straps are on the way

There are plenty of Apple Watch straps available, from the modest Sport Band to the more luxurious Link Bracelet. But there may soon be even more options, as Apple is opening the door to third-party manufacturers.

Third-party Apple Watch straps are on the way

Apple launched the "Made for Apple Watch" program. This gives strap makers a list of design requirements to follow. Any strap that follows these requirements will then be capable of slotting straight into any Apple Watch with the press of a button. There are a few things for strap makers to consider. Their straps will have to fit well, as the watch face has to touch the skin; they will have to comply with environmental regulations; and they can’t integrate magnetic chargers into their straps. But once they overcome all of those restrictions and hurdles, they will be able to sell their strap and give Watch owners more choice when it comes to what they wear around their wrist.
