Review - SteelSeries Apex RAW Gaming Keyboard
Known for premium PC gaming peripherals at a premium price point (for the most part) it’s refreshing to see that SteelSeries has opted for more affordable, but no less well built, peripherals to kick off its 2013 product range. The first device out of the blocks is the Apex Gaming Keyboard, a hulking behemoth built to take the kind of punishment that only hardcore gamers know how to dish out to their input devices.
The first thing you’ll notice about the Apex is its size. It’s definitely not your average typist’s board. Dwarfing everything else we’ve got in the office by quite a large amount, it’s built to be the ideal gaming accessory thanks to its robust, low profile and fast action keys. 17 programmable macro keys, each sporting two layers, add a phenomenal level of functionality for the most complicated titles out there today.
Once again proving the company’s intricate focus on details, players will be able to find their way back to the WASD finger positioning with ease thanks to two raised bumps at the bottom of the W key, ensuring the quickest possible return time for players who can’t afford to lose even a split second from their reaction times. Those of you who like a touch of bling can also customize the device’s backlit dispolay in a number of configurations using the SteelSeries Engine software.
The Apex’s performance is where it really shines though. Able to take absolutely everything we threw at it without so much as flinching, including support for as many as 20 simultaneous key presses, it’ll ensure you’re never left cursing your keyboard again. If you take your gaming seriously then this is one piece of kit you can’t afford to live without.
