Flappy Bird sequel Swing Copters lands on iOS and Android

Earlier this year a very simple, yet painfully difficult and addictive, game took the mobile world by storm. It racked up 50 million downloads and became the talk of social networks, striding past big budget titles in the app charts.

Then it was gone. The man who made the game, Dong Nguyen, said the attention and sheer weight of contact he’d received was too much, and he pulled it from view.

We are of course talking about Flappy Bird.

And now there’s a sequel – it’s called Swing Copters, and unbelievably for anyone who played Flappy Bird, this game is even harder.

Swing Copters is the sequel to Flappy Bird (PA)

Visually things are identical to Flappy Bird, with the same charming pixel art graphics running throughout. The format too is the same – the aim is to work your way through as many gates as possible without crashing.

This time, however, you’re going vertically as opposed to horizontally.

The physics are incredibly unforgiving, with well-timed taps of the screen needed to keep your character balanced. Miss any and you will find yourself crashing, without fail.

Further upping the difficulty rating is the addition of swinging obstacles to each gate, giving players something else to watch out for.

The game is free to download, and don’t be put off by the notice that it offers in-app purchases, this is only to remove the in-game adverts. However these are completely unobtrusive and nothing to worry about.

Instead you can focus on just trying to get past that first gate. Unless you’re this guy.
