THE telecoms regulator said three companies had applied for the country’s fourth 3G mobile licence.

Eircom, mobile company Meteor and Smart Telecom had submitted tenders by yesterday’s deadline, the Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg) said.

The ‘B’ licence will provide 3G mobile services - which allow for high-speed information transmission and internet access - for 20 years.
