Tánaiste and finance minister Simon Harris has appointed economics professor Oona Peia as a member of budgetary watchdog Irish Fiscal Council. 

Ms Peia will fill a pre-existing vacancy after macroeconomist Michael McMahon completed his term of office at the end of 2025. Ms Peia is an assistant professor of economics at UCD, specialising in macro-finance and financial stability. She has previously collaborated with the Central Bank, the ECB, and the Bundesbank on research into non-bank finance and credit supply. She has also conducted research on sovereign debt, bond markets and fiscal policy.
