The median average household income in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown stood at €84,991 during 2022.

The local authority of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown had the highest average gross household income as of 2022, new data from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) shows.

The median average household income in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown stood at €84,991 during 2022. After the deduction of income tax, USC and PRSI, this drops down to €66,950.

The median average is the better measure as it is not skewed by exceptionally high or low household incomes.

There are 31 local authorities across the country covering both city and county councils.

The local authority area with the lowest median household income, as of 2022, was Donegal with an average median income of €42,497.

In Munster, Cork County had the highest median gross household income at €60,906 while Kerry had the lowest at €48,320.

In Connacht, the local authority with the highest median average income was Galway County, at €59,895, with the lowest seen in Leitrim, at €45,267.

The CSO said four of the five local election areas with the highest median gross household income in 2022 were in Dublin. Stillorgan’s median average household income stood at €99,352 in 2022, while Blackrock’s stood at €94,381, Pembroke at €92,341, and Glencullen-Sandyford at €92,431.

The only local election area in the top five but not in Dublin was Ratoath in Meath with a median average household income of €88,796.

In Munster the top five local election areas with the highest median gross household income were all in Cork:

Carrigaline at €74,781, followed by Cork City South East at €71,614, Cobh at €69,833, Macroom at €69,436, and Cork City South West at €67,489. The LEA in Munster with the lowest median gross household income was Bantry-West Cork at €41,452.

The data also showed that just under half of households, 47.5%, in 2022 had a had a gross household income of less than €60,000 increasing to almost two thirds, 63.4%, of households in Donegal, At the upper end of the income distribution, 4.3% of households had a gross household income of €200,000 or above.
