Global natural catastrophe insured losses hit $50bn
The increase was driven by claims in the United States after a series of storms.
Global insured losses from natural catastrophes rose to $50bn (€45.5bn) in the first half of 2023, driven by claims in the United States after a series of thunderstorms, a report from reinsurer Swiss Re shows.
Up from $48 billion in the same period a year earlier, the losses were the second highest since 2011, spurred by $34bn (€30.96bn) in losses tied to the U.S. storms, the highest ever for a six-month period.
