Moore Ireland acquires Cork chartered accountancy practice TA Sheehan & Co

Deal strengthens Moore Ireland’s presence in Cork, with its South Mall team now increasing to more than 100 professionals

Moore Ireland has continued its national expansion with the acquisition of Cork chartered accountancy practice TA Sheehan & Co.

TA Sheehan has been trading since 1988. The business will operate under the Moore Ireland brand. The acquisition strengthens Moore Ireland’s presence in Cork, with its South Mall team now increasing to more than 100 professionals. Moore Ireland's workforce across the country now numbers over 280.

“This merger with a long-standing and respected firm such as TA Sheehan & Co is a great coup for Moore Ireland. It forms part of our ongoing buy-and-build approach as we continue the expansion of Moore Ireland across the Irish market," said Moore Ireland managing partner Ned Murphy.

TA Sheehan founder Tom Sheehan began his career with VF Nathans on Lavitt’s Quay in Cork in 1984, a firm that would later become Moore Ireland Chartered Accountants. He founded TA Sheehan & Company foyr years later and more than four decades later, is returning to the wider organisation where his professional career began.

Moore Ireland currently has offices in Cork, Galway, Dublin, and Dún Laoghaire. The TA Sheehan announcement builds on a significant period of growth for the firm, following its acquisitions of Galway-based DHKN and Dún Laoghaire-based HSOC in 2025.

In 2023, Moore Ireland itself became part of London-based accountancy and advisory firm Moore Kingston Smith (MKS). It is also part of the wider Moore Global network of accountants and advisory firms, which employs more than 37,000 people across 119 countries.

"Areas such as cybersecurity, gender pay gap reporting, funding, technology applications and AI are creating new demands that can often extend beyond the expertise and capacity of traditional smaller practices," said Mr Murphy.

“We are also seeing growing demand for our services from the pubs and bars, hospitality, media, and non-profit and charity sectors. Bringing TA Sheehan & Co into Moore Ireland will allow us to build on the strong work already being done by the team in Cork and across Ireland with increased capacity and professional expertise."
