Uniphar reports 8.6% growth in operating profit

Operating profit at healthcare service provider Uniphar increased by 8.6% during the first six months of the year, with the company “on track to meet” growth objectives.

Between January and the end of June this year, revenue at the company reached €1.59bn, up 7.2% compared to the same period last year, with its gross profit increasing 7.7% to just under €236.5m. After deductions and expenses, the company reported an operating profit of €35.4m.

Chief executive of the company Ger Rabbette said Unipher "delivered a strong first half, with continued organic gross profit growth across the group”.

“Trading continues to be robust, and the business is developing in line with our expectations. We expect to sustain this progress into the second half and remain on track to meet our growth objectives for each of our three divisions for the full year,” he said.

“We also remain confident in our ability to reach our €200m earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation target by 2028, with at least 80% of growth expected to be organic.” 

Uniphar operates three divisions — Uniphar Pharma, Uniphar Medtech, and Uniphar Supply Chain and Retail.

Uniphar Pharma — which provides services across the pharmaceutical and biotech companies — delivered a 7% increase in gross profit, with the division expecting “double-digit organic gross profit growth for the full year”.

Gross profit at Uniphar Medtech — a medical device distributor and solutions partner — grew by 9% “supported by broad-based demand across core specialisms, portfolio expansion into new markets and continued enhancement of the product offering".

The Uniphar Supply Chain and Retail division — a pharmaceutical wholesaler — saw gross profit grow by 5.6%, with its retail network increasing by 30 pharmacies to 512 in the period.

The company is expecting to complete the final phases of the development of new facilities in the UK and the Netherlands this year and is expecting a new “high-tech distribution facility” in Ireland will now go live in February 2027.
