Bank of Ireland sees profits jump 33%

Bank of Ireland reported a strong first half of 2026 growing pre-tax profits by 33% to €960m and upgraded its full-year guidance.

The bank said the strong performance was driven by a growth in loans, deposits, and wealth assets under management. 

The Group announced an interim dividend of 39c per share, an increase of 56%.

It reported net interest income of €1.7bn for the six months, up 2% year-on-year, driven by balance sheet growth. It now expects NII of c.€3.5bn for the full year, an upgrade from its prior guidance of c.€3.4bn.

Loans were €84bn at the end of June, up €1.5bn. Bank of Ireland said its mortgage position retained its number one position in new lending and grew its net lending at an annualised rate of 6%.

Customer deposits were €108.5bn, up €1bn on last year.

“The Group had an excellent performance in H1, increasing profit before tax by 33% to €960m," CEO Myles O'Grady said. "As we successfully execute our strategy, more customers are choosing to bank with Bank of Ireland, driving growth in lending, deposits, and in our wealth business.

“We remain alert to geopolitical developments and the risks for the global economy. Notwithstanding this, a favourable Irish macroeconomic and demographic environment, combined with our unrivalled position as Ireland’s national champion bank, offers continued momentum and confidence for the remainder of 2026 and beyond.”
