The firm belonging to Kerry football legend Eoin 'Bomber' Liston has been acquired by a local financial services firm, creating one of the county's largest locally-owned advisory businesses.

Reen Financial Services is set to exceed €150m in client assets under management following the acquisition of Eoin Liston Financial Services Ltd. The deal brings together two of Tralee's best-known financial advisories.

Ballybunion native Eoin Liston won seven All-Irelands with Kerry between 1978 and 1993, playing full-forward in one of the great Kerry sides. He will stay on as a director at Reen Financial Services, along with Conor Liston who joins as an administrator.

"The values are right, the team is right, and the ambition is right," said Mr Liston. "John (Reen, managing director) has built something impressive here, with real depth, real expertise, and a genuine commitment to clients. I'm not stepping away. I'm staying on, Conor is staying on, and the clients I've looked after for years will continue to see the same familiar faces. They'll just have a stronger Tralee-based team behind them going forward."

Reen Financial Services developed from Murphy & Sheehy Insurances in Tralee, serving the South-West. John Reen joined Murphy & Sheehy as commercial manager in 2007, and in 2013 the strategic decision was taken to expand into financial services. In 2019, Mr Reen acquired Murphy & Sheehy Insurances Limited outright and the business relocated to new premises at 11 Denny Street, rebranding as Reen Financial Services Limited.

In 2024, the business was formalised into two distinct entities: Reen Financial Services Ltd., focusing on financial planning and advisory services, and Reen Insurances Ltd., dedicated to general insurance solutions.

The combined team now comprises 10 financial and insurance professionals.

"When the opportunity came to join forces with Eoin, someone who has spent his career earning the trust of clients right here in Tralee, it was a straightforward decision," said Reen Financial Services managing director John Reen. "What we are creating is something genuinely significant for Kerry: a locally owned, independently minded firm with the scale and expertise to compete with anyone, and the roots to stay."
