Company offically opens 15,000 sq ft new office building in Dublin Hill in Cork city

SE Systems is to create 150 jobs over the next two years as it looks to double turnover to €100m by 2030, the company said on Friday.

The expansion comes as the company says demand for solar and energy retrofit schemes continues to soar. The announcement was made today by EU Commissioner Michael McGrath, who officially opened SE Systems' new office HQ, an A-rated 15,000 sq ft building, in Dublin Hill in Cork city.

The €3m investment in the office forms part of SE Systems national growth strategy, which includes the planned expansion of the company's Dublin office and the development of strategic partnerships across Ireland to capitalise on demand for energy efficiency, decarbonisation, and energy management services. They also plan to expand regional hubs across Clare, Donegal, and Louth.

"This expansion reflects the growing demand for practical and innovative energy efficiency solutions across Ireland. Our investment in Cork, expansion in Dublin and development of partnerships nationwide will allow us to support more organisations and communities as they reduce energy costs, improve sustainability performance and transition towards a low-carbon future. The creation of 150 new jobs demonstrates our confidence in both the sector and the opportunities ahead," said SE Systems co-founder and chief executive John O'Leary.

Energy efficiency plans

SE Systems was founded in 2010 and works with homeowners, businesses, and public sector organisations to support and implement energy efficiency plans, including handling grant applications for solar and heat pump installation, and wider energy efficiency. The company says it has unlocked nearly €1bn in energy-saving grants for customers over the last 16 years and processes around €100m in commercial and community energy grants for customers annually.

The company says these projects have saved over 1.6 billion kWh of energy, and 358,000 tonnes of CO2 since 2010.

SE Systems currently employs 112 staff and is supported by a network of 300 specialist subcontractors. The company has retrofitted almost 15,000 homes and 2,000 commercial buildings since 2010. Among the commercial partners it has worked with are Tesco, ESB Smart Energy Services, Stryker, and Johnson & Johnson.

EU Commissioner for Democracy, Justice, the Rule of Law and Consumer Protection, Michael McGrath, said SE Systems is a "prime example of a home-grown business going from strength to strength. The creation of 150 jobs is welcome news in any sector, but especially in the renewable and green economy. Renewable industries are not only good for the planet - they also create high-quality jobs and drive economic growth. 

"Through investment in strategic planning, digital platforms, and energy monitoring and metering technologies, SE Systems is well positioned to support organisations in transitioning to all-electric operations and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.” 

Of the 150 jobs created, SE Systems plans to recruit across engineering, project management, energy services, software and digital technologies, operations, technical support and business development.

It also plans to expand its training and career opportunities in partnership with educational institutions, apprenticeship providers and industry. Initiatives will include apprenticeships, graduate recruitment, professional development and upskilling programmes, alongside new career pathways in engineering, energy management and digital technologies.
