US investor set to buy Eccles Hotel in West Cork

The landmark Eccles Hotel in Glengarriff in West Cork is expected to change ownership in a deal worth more than €4m, according to reports.

The landmark Eccles Hotel in Glengarriff in West Cork is expected to change ownership in a deal worth more than €4m, according to reports.

The hotel in Glengarriff dates back 200 years, and is currently owned by Ray Byrne and Eoin Doyle, who upgraded the hotel from a three-star to a four-star destination venue and spa. 

According to the Sunday Times, the pair have agreed to sell the four-star hotel to US hospitality investor Brian Patrick Martin, a well know figure in the sector Stateside.

Mr Byrne and Mr Doyle changedg the name to the Eccles Hotel & Spa in 2019 when the new spa addition opened as part of upgrades. The four-star Eccles Hotel & Spa now has 59 refurbished bedrooms, wedding/conference and banqueting facilities and a spa with three treatment rooms. The pair first put the Eccles up for sale two years ago with an asking price of €5m.

Former president Michael D Higgins was a guest at the Eccles Hotel during his tenure as head of State, and over the decades other famous visitors include George Bernard Shaw and WB Yeats.
