Wendy’s to open second Irish restaurant in Offaly after strong Cork launch

Wendy’s confirms second Irish restaurant for Tullamore, with 60 new jobs and a May opening.

Fast food chain Wendy’s will open its second Irish restaurant after hailing the “fantastic response” to its outlet in Mahon Point in Cork.

Corrib Oil acts as the franchise partner in the Irish market for US-headquartered Wendy’s and opened the Mahon Point outlet in October.

On Tuesday, Corrib Oil confirmed its second Wendy’s location in Ireland will open at Tullamore Retail Park in Co Offaly. The new restaurant and drive-thru will open in May, and recruitment is under way.

“Following the fantastic response to our first Wendy’s restaurant in Cork, we’re delighted to confirm Tullamore as the location for our second Irish location" said Corrib Brands managing director Michael Dalton. "This is another important step in our long-term expansion strategy.”

The Mahon Point outlet employs 60 staff, and Corrib is recruiting a further 60 staff for the new Midlands outlet.

Tullamore Retail Park sits inside the N52 ring road, five minutes from Tullamore town centre and 10 minutes from the M6 Dublin–Galway motorway.

Over the coming years, Corrib plans to open 10 Wendy’s locations across Ireland, both as standalone restaurants and at select Corrib Oil service stations, creating more than 300 jobs.

Founded in 1987 in Claremorris, Co Mayo, Corrib Oil operates 41 convenience stores with forecourts and 20 fuel depots across 17 counties.

The company employs 1,300 people and is headquartered in Parkmore, Galway.

Corrib Oil operates three divisions — Corrib Retail, Corrib Oil Distribution, and Corrib Brands — and has long-term partnerships with BWG Foods, operating under its Spar brand, Texaco, Circle K, and food chains including Insomnia, Apache Pizza, Subway, and Zambrero.

As with the Cork restaurant, the Tullamore Wendy’s will source beef and chicken from Irish-based food companies Kepak and Western Brand.

Founded in 1969, Wendy’s operates more than 7,250 restaurants worldwide, with more than 1,350 located outside the US. Wendy's Europe managing director Michael Clarke said: "Corrib Oil has proven to be a strong partner, and we’re excited to bring Wendy’s ‘globally great, locally loved’ experience to more Irish customers when the restaurant opens this spring.”

The Wendy's brand is best known for its square hamburgers, Spicy Chicken Sandwich and the Frosty dessert.
