Online retail giant Amazon has today launched Amazon.ie
Amazon.ie has launched in Ireland.
Amazon.ie, the long-awaited Irish store front for the online retail giant, has officially launched in Ireland.
This move has long been in the works with the company working towards this launch ever since it opened its first fulfilment centre in Dublin in 2022.
Amazon already has a massive presence in Ireland employing around 6,500 people in Cork, Dublin, and Drogheda in areas such as data engineers, operations management, and finance. However, until now it did not have a Ireland specific version of its online retail business.
The company said Irish customers will get one day delivery on millions of products including Barry’s Tea, Bewley’s, and Ella & Jo. The site will also have a dedicated ‘Brands of Ireland’ page.
‘Brands of Ireland’ is part of a collaboration with Enterprise Ireland.
As part of the launch, the company is offering its Prime membership for €6.99 a month which includes delivery on purchases as well as access to its streaming service Prime Video.
Those customers in Ireland who already have UK Prime memberships can easily switch, and will automatically have their UK Prime membership cancelled and refunded when they do so.
Alison Dunn, Ireland country manager at Amazon, said “we can’t wait to write the next chapter of our story in Ireland,” she said.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin said the company’s expansion will “give consumers more choice and better value, as well as help small, medium and large businesses across the country promote their own Irish and international products”.
The company has six sites across Cork, Dublin, and Drogheda. These include a fulfilment centre in Dublin’s Baldonnell Business Park, a delivery station in Ballycoolin, data centres, and two corporate offices in Cork and Dublin.
The company claimed that Irish small and medium-sized businesses recorded €170m in export sales on the platform in 2023.
Amazon.ie is available on desktop and mobile browsers, as well as the Amazon mobile shopping app.
