The Irish Examiner has appointed Martin Claffey as deputy business editor.

A Cork native, Mr Claffey comes to the Irish Examiner from the Southern Star where he held the position of deputy editor.

He previously held roles in the Irish Examiner, breakingnews.ie, and The Echo

His addition brings to four the number on the Irish Examiner's business team, alongside business editor Alan Healy, reporter Emer Walsh, and Dublin-based reporter Ronan Smyth.

"We are delighted to have an excellent journalist and editor of Martin's calibre joining the Irish Examiner's business team," Mr Healy said.

"Martin will play a key role, alongside reporters Emer Walsh and Ronan Smyth, in expanding our award-winning business coverage."

"His appointment highlights the Irish Examiner's commitment to top-quality business journalism across digital and print."

Developments in the Irish Examiner's business coverage in recent months include the second series of our ieBusiness podcast focused on Irish people who built businesses abroad.

In December, Ms Walsh was named upcoming business journalist of the year at the Smurfit Business Awards.
