Furniture giant Ikea has announced its further expansion into Ireland with the opening of a new plan and order point in County Carlow.

Scheduled to open on the 23rd of February, it marks the retailer's fifth plan and order point in Ireland, with additional locations set to open throughout this year.

The retail giant's plan and order points are part of its specialised stores focused on kitchen and wardrobe design planning, with its Carlow site joining four other locations in Cork, Naas, Drogheda and Dublin.

“We’re excited to bring a touch of Swedishness and affordable home furnishings to parts of Ireland where we’ve not yet had a physical presence before," said Market Manager at Ikea Ireland, Martyn Allan.

"They’re a fantastic place for us to help people living far away from our store in Ballymun with their other Ikea purchases."

In an additional step towards its wider Irish expansion, Ikea has also confirmed that its new Customer Distribution Centre in Rathcoole, Dublin will open later this spring which it said will reduce delivery times from 7-10 days to 2-3 days once up and running.

The announcement of IKEA’s continued expansion plans comes as global CEO, Jesper Brodin, visits the Ballymun store. Speaking in Dublin, Mr Brodin said, "It’s exciting to be here in Dublin and to see first hand the success the Irish team have built up."

"Ireland is a special market for us and even if we haven’t been present that long, we see huge love for IKEA here. We’re excited and optimistic about the future."
