SUBSCRIBECork coffee roaster and supplier Velo has partnered with food ingredients firm Glanbia Nutrition to launch a new product called Velo Coffee + Protein.
The ground coffee product was trialled at the Food Expo in Birmingham, UK, earlier this year and received a positive response.
“This project is two years in the making, working alongside experts in Glanbia Nutrition,” said Velo’s Suzanne Casey. “It is surreal to see it on shelf!
“Taste was the most crucial factor for us. We refused to compromise on the quality of coffee that Velo is known for, and I am thrilled with what the team developed.”
Madyson Savner of Velo said: “People raved about the protein coffee, and you could see the excitement around this innovation.
“It brings together two things that people love in the morning in one delicious cup of coffee.
“One buyer described it as the most innovative product in coffee since the launch of the Nespresso Capsule in 1986.”
Protein shakes and coffee products have remained popular amongst consumers for decades.
Velo’s product is made from Arabica coffee beans that are ground and blended with whey protein. Velo said it is not just for athletes and fitness enthusiasts, but for anyone looking to add more protein to their diet.
Velo Coffee + Protein is currently stocked with Tesco. In July, Velo, founded by Rob Horgan, received eight Great Taste stars for their products at the awards in London.
Last year, Velo signed a two-year contract to supply Aldi, agreeing to sell almost half a million bags of their coffee through the supermarket chain.
