Alcohol-dependence treatment Selincro granted licence

A new treatment option for alcohol dependence promises to reduce consumption by up to 61%.

Selincro has been granted a licence to be used for alcohol reduction in Ireland and can be prescribed by GPs, along with support on how to comply with the treatment.

Dr Garrett McGovern, a Dublin-based GP who specialises in the area of addiction said: "Selincro seems to reduce the desire to drink lots of alcohol…and consequently the amount (that people) drink."
