Black market activities cost the Exchequer €860m every year.

The Dáil's Jobs Committee is holding regional meetings in Waterford and Kilkenny today.

It is to discuss ways to tackle issues like fuel laundering, cigarette smuggling and counterfeit goods which put extra pressure on the retail sector.

Damien English, chairman of the committee, has said the recession means more people have turned to the black market.
