EU roaming charges decrease from today

Mobile phone roaming charges in Europe will decrease from today.

The price of making a call while in the EU will reduce significantly, as will the cost of sending a text or using the internet on your mobile.

From today, international calls within the EU will fall to 29c per minute, a reduction of 6c.

Receiving a call while in the EU will drop from 11c to 8c, while the cost of sending a text message will fall from 11c to 9c.

It will also cost less from now on to use the Internet on your phone while abroad in Europe.

Roaming rates for accessing the internet on mobile phones will be set at a maximum of 86c per megabyte, a reduction of more than 80% for some mobile phone customers in Ireland.

These reductions are seen as just the start of a decline in the cost of using your mobile phone while abroad.

Roaming charges within Europe are expected to decrease further from 2014.
