Ireland's pubs, hotels and restaurants are suffering because of the recession, according to a new survey from the Drinks Industry Group of Ireland.

The survey shows that bar sales are down and the amount of drink being consumed by adults has also dropped.

Last year bar sales fell by 7.2%, and the amount of alcohol consumed by the average adult also dropped, by 0.14% to 11.7 litres per year.

Con Dennehy, spokesperson for the Cork branch of the Vintners Federation of Ireland, has said that people no longer have enough disposable income to spend on alcohol, and those working in the hospitality sector are feeling very unsure about the future.
