New figures this afternoon show the eurozone economy shrunk by 0.3% in the last three months of 2011, which is being seen as a further sign that the debt crisis is pushing it towards recession.

New figures this afternoon show the eurozone economy shrunk by 0.3% in the last three months of 2011, which is being seen as a further sign that the debt crisis is pushing it towards recession.

It is the first time that growth in the eurozone as a whole has contracted since the second quarter of 2009.
