Shares rise across Europe

Shares across Europe had a good day after some encouraging corporate results.

However, they lost some of their gains in the afternoon when Italy's Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi won a crucial vote on public finances, and seemed set to stay in office, for the time being at least.
