UK unemployment up by 44,000

Unemployment in Britain increased by 44,000 in the three months to December to 2.49 million, official figures showed today.

The number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance increased by 2,400 last month to 1.46 million, said the Office for National Statistics.
