Limerick company distributes eco-friendly product to deal with cold snap

A Limerick company has begun distributing an eco-friendly solution to travel difficulties created by the recent cold snap, it was announced today.

Irish Wire Products is distributing EcoTraction, an alternative to grit, salt and sand, in co-op and hardware stores and nationwide.

The compound is a green-coloured volcanic mineral that is "completely safe to touch or accidentally ingest by children, pets, and wildlife".

According to the manufacturers, EcoTraction provides seven times better traction than sand and does not corrode, rust or stain surfaces.

"The extreme weather conditions we are currently experiencing has caused chaos around the country," said Steven O'Connell of Irish Wire Products.

"Ice melters are toxic substances and it is essential that potential after effects are considered especially when used around eco-sensitive areas.

"The end goal people are looking for is traction on the ice to allow us to continue with our day-to-day business."
