EC approves Govt request to extend bank guarantee scheme

The European Commission has approved a request to extend the bank guarantee scheme for corporate deposits until the end of the year.

The Government had asked for the extension earlier this month and the EC has said the scheme is an adequate means to remedy a "serious disturbance" in the Irish economy.
