Heavy fall for Dow

The Dow Jones Index in the US fell 268.22, or 2.7 %, to 9,870.30 last night, its lowest close since June 9.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 index fell 33.33, or 3.1 %, to 1,041.24. It was the lowest close for the S&P since October 5.
