Uncertainty caused by the British general election put a dampener on the UK housing market during May with prices in England and Wales edging ahead by just 0.2%, research showed today.

All of the key market indicators showed a marked slowdown during the month, as both buyers and sellers sat on their hands, according to property intelligence group Hometrack.
