Fed expected to maintain interest rates

America's central bank, the Federal Reserve, is expected to leave interest rates at a record low when it holds its last monthly meeting of the year later today.

The Fed is, however, expected to give some signal about the conditions in which it will begin raising rates again as recovery takes hold in the world's biggest economy.
