The FTSE 100 Index stepped up the pace of its recent rally today as stock markets shook off the latest grim US unemployment figures.

UK blue-chips followed the lead of Asian markets, which rose after Friday’s worse-than-expected US jobs report was seen as a sign that interest rates in the world’s largest economy will stay low for longer.
