Businesses are being urged not to send Chistmas cards, but to help the homeless instead.

The Simon Communities of Ireland has launched its eleventh ‘House of Cards’ Christmas appeal.

It wants organisations to make donations to Simon instead of sending paper greetings and in return, businesses will be appear on one of two full-page newspaper ads.

The cash will be used to help those without shelter. To date the appeal has raised almost €4m.
