Aviva to centralise European operations in Ireland

British insurance giant Aviva has announced plans to move its European operations to Ireland in a bid to cut costs.

The Reuters news agency says the company plans to centralise all of its European operations under a single Irish-based holding company.

Aviva says the move will help it cut costs and exploit growth opportunities.

The decision is only expected to create a small number of new jobs in Ireland.
