UK unemployment at 14-year high

Unemployment in the UK soared to a new 14-year high of 2.43 million in the three months to June.

Another 220,000 people fell victim to the recession in the quarter to leave a total of 2,434,879 jobless, with the rate of unemployment hitting 7.8% – the highest since the end of 1996.
