Ireland had the second largest trade surplus in the European Union for the period January to April 2009 when the value of Irish exports exceeded the value of imports by €12.7bn, according to new data released today by European statistics body Eurostat.

Ireland had the second largest trade surplus in the European Union for the period January to April 2009 when the value of Irish exports exceeded the value of imports by €12.7bn, according to new data released today by European statistics body Eurostat.

The largest surplus was observed in Germany (+€36.8bn), with the Netherlands coming in at third place at +€11.6bn.
